Show reviews for the week of Jan. 2

We ended our reviews last week with Mad Cat's Macbeth and the Monster so lets pick up there.

Mia Leonin from the Miami Herald says Macbeth, "underscores the importance of family, the reality of war, and the resilience of children’s imaginations."

South Floridians who need a break from the holiday doldrums can find comic relief in Mad Cat Theatre Company’s production of Macbeth and the Monster, a entertaining story within a story. When Little Macbeth (Stephen Elliot Kaiser) begs his mother, Mrs. Macbeth (Erin Joy Schmidt) for a bedtime story, the pregnant, stressed-out, single mom delivers a hilarious tale that is part Shakespeare and part Loch Ness monster, with a healthy dose of Sesame Street thrown in.
And Roger Martin Atca has reviewed  Macbeth and the Monster for the Miami ArtZine.
Take a simple little bedtime story, twist it through the mind of playwright Angela Berliner, the direction of Paul Tei and the production of Mad Cat Theatre Company and you'll get something that won't really scare the pants of your little kid but will surely make him laugh. And his old 'rents, too. It's Macbeth and the Monster, now playing at the Light Box at the Goldman Warehouse in Miami.

Ron Stafford Hagwood writing for the Sun-Sentinel has reviewed The Prisoner of Second Avenue which relocated from Stage Door's Miami theatre to the one in Coral Springs for a run through January 29.
It's no wonder Mel (Dan Kelley) has a nervous breakdown and has to be eased back from Neuroticville-population-one by his resigned wife Edna (Derelle Bunn), who digs trenches around her husband and settles in until he comes back to firm reality.
